The Nightingale Family
Jinx Nightingale (Jinx the Bard) is a changeling and the current leader of both Prothea and the Nightingale family. He is a wandering bard and is prone to traveling away from the small isolated nation quite often. He usually leaves a message for his wife and kids when this happens. He is married to Miya Nightingale. He fights with a quarterstaff and magic. Miya Nightingale is a human, and currently leads Prothea at Jinx’s side. She was freed from a life of slavery by Jinx when he came across a group of slave traders. The pair were happily married not long after that, and have been so ever since. Meta Nightingale is a changeling, and Jinx’s cousin. He is the only living relative Jinx has. Unlike his father, Meta is a kind man, even towards his enemies. Like Jinx, he fled to the mainland to see the world and experience life outside of mortality. However, a war with dragons kept him from his home. He returned just in time to help Jinx rescue his wife. Jinx Foxglove was an eccentric changeling, and Jinx’s great-grandfather. He disappeared inside a cave one day and never returned. Nobody knows what happened to him.

The Family Tree
Edward Nightingale was a changeling (Edward the Tyrant) was Jinx’s uncle, who ten years ago killed his brother, Jon Nightingale and his wife Divinity Nightingale to ascend to the throne. This civil war created chaos that drove many other clans and people away from the isolated city-state. He is also Meta Nightingale’s father. Jinx killed him five years ago and reclaimed his homeland. Jon Nightingale (Jon the Fair) was Jinx’s father, and a changeling. He was called the Fair because he tried to rule with justly and treated all his subjects equal. His brother killing him sparked off a civil war that would leave the country he so dearly loved in ruins. He did instill in Jinx a hard, moral compass of right and wrong. Divinity Nightingale was Jinx’s mother, and a changeling. She named Jinx after her beloved, but eccentric grandfather Jinx Foxglove. She was a competent warrior and businesswoman, and was largely responsible for increasing the family’s wealth to the level it is at today. She did pass some of that ability on to Jinx. She was killed by Edward, along with Jinx’s unborn sibling.
The History of the Nightingale Family
The Nightingales have ruled over Prothea for the past five generations. They are the last remaining ‘civilized’ fey. The rest of them either went wild or left Prothea long before that. As a result, the Nightingales rose to power, and for the most part have been generally fair rulers. They welcomed humans, elves, dwarves, and the like with open arms. When Edward Nightingale started a civil war and came to power, the war tore the land apart at its seams. Many Prothean humans fled, and the clans of Fey Knights, who served as the militia of Prothea. The only clan to escape were the Moonblades, who fled to the mainland. Edward’s rule lasted for about five years before Jinx discovered what his uncle was up to. He returned with a group of friends and defeated his uncle in combat, reclaiming his throne. Jinx then went about rebuilding his war-torn home, and along with the vampire inventor Nemo Ordo, established a college of learning just outside of the city called The Prothean College. Jinx has not re-founded the Fey Knights, but along with the humans that remain, he has formed the Prothean Militia, which serves the function the Fey Knights did a decade ago. They are led by Nemo Ordo.
