What is Role Playing?

Online text-based role playing is a role-playing game played online using a solely text-based interfaces such as forums or chat rooms.

Play-by-post role-playing games

This is where players post messages on media such as bulletin boards & online forums to which their fellow players will post role-played responses without a limit or time frame. Other players enjoy using real-time chat rooms (such as Discord, 123 Flash Chat, etc.) in the same exact way, still having no limit but they do have a time frame.

Type Format

Story format requires that the character's actions be mentioned, including the surroundings and a general description of what is going on.

Genres

There's a variety of genres that online text-based role playing has to offer: This includes fantasy, drama, horror, anime, science fiction, and media-based fan role-play.

Role Play Lingo

• OOC: Stands for Out of Character, it is the action in which you add OOC bubbles to your Out of Character comments during a Role Play. OOC bubbles are different but relatively the same and can be written in any one of these formats at the end of your sentence: )) , ]] , ) , ]

  • Ex: That was an awesome post!))​

• RP: Of course, a simple abbreviation for Role Play.​

• IC: Stands for In Character when talking about your characters interactions, statements or story telling when you're speaking OOC.

  • Ex: When Sally was going to the campground IC, I realized that...))​
